My husband loved the old photos in the coridors. each after noon we walked up and down the halls to have a look at the photos. And the food was great. The bed was too soft tough
The bed was to soft and my husband complained about back ache
Couldnt open windows ,plumbing not togood in the bathroom no hot water bath or basins only the shower worked. A ticket should be issued when you leave your bag in the bag room.
Very elegant and warm, soothing as well.
Shower gells not replaced everyday
The fact that staff somehow communicated a sense of ownership with some associated pride. The staff were perseptive interactive and preemptive where needed The hotel was adaequately managed I though - not a n easy task. I appreciated the general cleanliness of the streets.
The lack of good dining for which the Royal was once renowned, the general lack of a really good revamp such as paint peeling under the main entrance overhead, the obviously dirty windows, The hotel has been recently sold and is in transition so the lack of facilities is understandable. The general percived lack of safety in the hotel environs (especially at night) and the lack of "near by" reachable faciities (esp on foot). The (at times) tardy taxi responce.
Room have a nice open space to move around..
remote control...buttons are to hard to press and mostly the tv..so old fashion...please upgrade that...
Staff friendly & helpful
Aircon in room not working, had to move room, horrible first night. Maintenance did not come out as promised. Construction above so until 20:00 at night (only after I complained, drilles, jackhammers and hammering). Dinign hall extculively booked for fucntion and normal guest cant use it. Ordered fillet at altrnative venue but they did not have any???? I will not be staying there again easily. In spite of brilliant staff.
the vie of the sea and the food
fantastic but i just think something can be done interms of parking allocation to guests also think you need a airconditioner
Parking was good. Spa was good.
Breakfast was a mess, please attend. Cleanliness of hotel is bad, its smelly.
Beautiful views of Durban harbour
Faded charm. Need maintenance - especially lifts, carpets, general decor. Why would a 4 star hotel play east coast radio piped through the corridors and during breakfast? This really should be classical music if anything.
The hotel staff were great, we arrived early. They gave us a place to place our bags in the mean time and even managed to check us in early as we were travelling with a young child. It was a pleasure to stay at the hotel and the breakfast was divine.
No buffet dinner and the restaurant closes too early.
Staff were very friendly.
I went there primarily for the breakfast, and was sorely disappointed. There was no variety, egg orders took long, and juice and bread always ran out. The aircon is not effective. On checking out I almost got a heart attack when I was asked to settle my bill. I had to forward my confirmation to the reception manager as proof of payment.
Not much really. However I did appriciate a lot when I needed to go to the pharmacy late in the evening (in a doggy area) and the receptionist was so concerned about me going to that area alone that she accompanied me! That was above and beyond for sure!
Building Works which however they stopped after complaining. Poor breakfast. Poor room service - you have to wait forever before you get served if you are lucky (once they called us an hour after ordering telling us that they did not have what we ordered!!!). The worst of all (biggest joke ever) the safe was not mounted. Anyone who wishes to steel you can just walk away with the safe!!!!!
I stayed at the royal hotel 25 years ago on my honeymoon.I Felt it would be special to relive the memory of the day 25 years to the day we booked in.
Very cool environment, relaxed and quiet. Staff very friendly. Nice big rooms and we furnished.
The washing liquid on dishes especially the glasses smells bad. Sometimes if you ask for water, you get water with dirty things flowing inside the glass. Room service took time or never responds to clients requests. Instead of 1 double bed in the room, we (me and my girl friend) got two single beds...and I was like "wtf". When the room is being cleaned, staff who cleans the rooms do not change the towels, we ended up using the same towels for 4 nights, 5 days...can you imagine that...
Nothing, bad service
The hotel is rated as a 4 star hotel. I travel worlwide and this is untrue. I have stayed in 3 star hotels and received better service. The rooms are dirty with soiled curtains. Towels and linen were stained and only one bath towel was supplied to a room with two occupants. We found hairs in the bed linen, which had supposedly been changed before we arrived. This was definitely not the case. We waited 2 hours for room service, which were frozen waffles that had been toasted and burnt.Staff were useless when it came to sorting out problems. When approached about the shocking cleanliness of the rooms, they promised to look into into but nothing was done. I feel the price paid for a room which is rated 4 star is a rip off. This hotel needs to be reviewed on their rating as it is definitely not 4 star. I will never stay here again and would not recommend it to any of my colleagues and friends.
